Phase TWO is off the ground!!!
According to the BHA, (by the beginning of March, 2012), more than half of the 196 households in Phase Two have already been moved to other housing. Some tenants chose to move into the beautiful, new Phase One units. Lucky residents!
Some families opted for Section 8. Others were moved to different BHA units.
Buildings Slated For Demolition…under PHASE TWO
The block of buildings slated for demolition under Phase Two is bordered by Old Colony Avenue, Patterson Way, Burke Street and Dorchester Street.
Did you know that families being moved during the relocation have the choice of moving to anywhere in the US? Yes, even Hawaii!! Or the Caribbean – like Puerto Rico or St Thomas!!! Or to California or Illinois…or even Alaska!!!
However, the BHA says “typically very few residents opt to move out of the greater Boston area…”
BHA hopes to finish moving the remaining Phase Two families by July 31, 2012.
BHA has contracted Housing Opportunities Unlimited (HOU) to relocate tenants – both when they leave the Old Colony AND when they return. We welcome HOU as our returning Relocation Partner. (HOU also handled Relocation for Phase 1)
Demolition and construction on PHASE TWO is expected to begin SEPTEMBER, 2012.
